We found Bermuda to be a very easy place to visit, but there are some tips that we would recommend you consider when planning your own trip to Bermuda to ensure your trip goes smoothly and you’re prepared!
Did you know only residents of Bermuda can drive within the country? Rental cars are out (and honestly, we’re not sure we’d want to drive on Bermuda’s roads). Plan for transportation options that fit your trip. You can read our dedicated post on getting around Bermuda here.
As an island that is truly a speck out in the vast ocean, Bermuda’s weather patterns can be unpredictable and spastic. Ensure you pack the right gear for your trip. You can read our dedicated post on packing tips for Bermuda here.
Bermuda uses American-style outlets, which surprised us given the close ties between Bermuda and Britain.
American or Bermudian dollars (which are 100% tied to American currency) are used in-country, and credit cards are widely accepted. We would recommend having cash on hand for the taxi ride from the airport. If for no other reason than aesthetic, do not leave Bermuda without seeing an example of the Bermudian dollar bills, which are artistic! There is an entire room dedicated to their currency in the national museum in the Royal Naval Dockyard.
If you plan on touring the island to check out sites, we highly recommend staying in Hamilton. It is centrally located so that no one destination is ridiculously far away, and it is the hub for the bus and ferry system. If you prefer to have a beach-focused trip, any of the more remote resorts would work well - just be aware that you will find dining options limited since the resorts are not generally near eating establishments besides their own, and the roads are not walkable to nearby restaurants for the most part.
Plan on making restaurant reservations. Even in the off-season when we visited, several places booked up in advance, particularly hotel restaurants that were convenient for guests.
